Surrounded by picturesque lawns and gardens, The Old Swan was once the famous retreat of Agatha Christie. It offers modern rooms with private bathrooms and on-site car parking. Originally an 18th-century coaching inn, it now features rooms with tea and coffee-making facilities, a TV and trouser press. Some also have a stand-alone bath and views over the garden. The traditional Swan Lounge and Bar offers a selection of beverages and afternoon teas, while the Wedgewood and Library restaurants serve fresh, locally sourced dishes. The Old Swan was home to Agatha Christie during her disappearance in 1926, and has since been used as a film set for the 1979 film, Agatha. Just a short walk from Harrogate town center, the building is 5 minutes’ walk from the famous Betty’s Tearoom and 15 minutes from Harrogate Railway Station.

Loved the mains areas / bar lovely. Rooms comfortable. Breakfast good.
I think it needed some cleaning. Main bar area behind curtains full of dead insects. A little off putting. Generally lovely though.

A lovely period property with an interesting history.
The inflexibility of staff in applying a discount for staying there and attending a wedding because I booked via booking.com and it was less than 3 months before the wedding. I was not advised of the need to book directly for the discount or the 3 month rule when I booked to stay for attending a wedding at the hotel.

Good
Our room was a great size, and the hotel is very handy for the Royal Hall.
Unfortunately our room was too hot. We slept with the fan on & the window open (end of September). No idea where the heat was coming from as the radiator in the room was cold! The hotel is in need of an overhaul, creaky floors & beds, cracked floor tiles in the bathroom and dated decor.
